5301 Research Week 3 - Action Research Plan

  1. Alane, It looks really good. You might consider doing a check sometime mid-year to see if any tweaks are needed. Also, in your first action step, I was a little confused as to whether you were researching successful strategies in the broader education world or strategies in use at your school. It wasn't until I read your second step that I assumed you meant researching best practice in part one.

  2. Alane, Your plan is very thorough! The only thing I would add based on the eight "steps" we learned about in week 3 is to see if there are any additional questions that come after the results are shared. Even if the project is successful, there may be other questions that can be solved through action research. This will just make your campus stronger as more action research is implemented.

  3. Thanks Laura and Matt. Your comments have helped strengthen my action research project. I have added clarification in the first action step, and I have added steps along the way to gather questions that might arise. Those questions could lead to a better project, or even a new one.

  4. Alane;
    That is a very interesting topic. Are you going to apply statistical formulas such as standard deviation to measure central tendency? That would give you a lot of information in your analysis.

  5. I love your step 4, contacting EVERY parent! I would be upset if I was asked to contact 20 or 25 parents, but I can see the advantage if it gets done. You can't get any better than that if every parent is contacted, plus it doesn't leave any room for "I didn't know" on behalf of the parents. Also, high school kids aren't much different from kindergarden kids when it comes to taking a note home to mom and dad. You almost have to pin it on their shirt so teachers calling parents is a perfect solution. Great plan.
